Community Guidelines
Effective August 12, 2026
HitchRoute is built on trust between campers — trust that a review reflects a real stay, that a check-in means you're actually there, and that a message or post comes from a real person acting in good faith. These guidelines explain what we expect, alongside our Terms of Service, which they're part of.
1. Reviews and check-ins
- Only check in at a location you're actually visiting. Check-ins that verify a "stay" for rewards purposes are meant to reflect a real visit.
- Only review a campground you've actually stayed at or visited, whether or not you booked through HitchRoute.
- Write about your own experience. Don't post a review on someone else's behalf, exaggerate for effect, or leave a review to settle a personal dispute unrelated to the stay.
- Don't offer or accept payment, discounts, or other incentives in exchange for a review.
2. Photos and posts
- Only post photos you took or have permission to share.
- Keep community posts relevant to camping, the location, or the HitchRoute community.
- No graphic violence, sexual content, or content that endangers or exploits minors — this applies everywhere on the Service, no exceptions.
3. Respecting other campers
- No harassment, threats, hate speech, or targeted abuse based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
- No impersonating another person, campground, or business.
- No sharing another person's private information (address, phone number, license plate, etc.) without their consent.
- Disagreements happen — keep them civil. If someone is making you uncomfortable, block them and report it; you don't need to argue it out publicly.
4. Messaging
- Direct messages are for genuine conversation between campers. Don't use them for spam, mass solicitation, or advertising unrelated products or services.
- If someone asks you to stop messaging them, stop. Continuing after that is harassment, and they can block and report you.
5. Store and rewards
- Promotions, discount codes, and free-item offers are for genuine individual use. Creating multiple accounts to redeem a one-time promotion more than once is not allowed.
- Badges and rewards reflect real verified stays — don't attempt to game check-ins or reviews to inflate your rank.
6. Reporting a problem
If you see content or behavior that crosses these lines, use the report option on the profile, post, review, or message in question, or contact us directly at hello@hitchroute.com. We review reports and may remove content, issue a warning, or suspend an account, depending on severity and history.
7. Enforcement
Violating these guidelines can result in content removal, a warning, temporary suspension, or permanent account termination, at HitchRoute's discretion, depending on the severity and pattern of the behavior. Severe violations — including threats, exploitation of minors, or illegal activity — may be reported to law enforcement.
8. Changes to these guidelines
We may update these guidelines as the community grows. We'll post the revised version at this URL and update the effective date.
